NAP01 - Splendid Napoli & Pompeii

Spend the day soaking up the archaeological jewels of NAPLES.  The city itself is intriguing and mysterious with a rich mixture of styles in fine old buildings and churches, baroque courtyards, crumbling arcades, grand piazzas all overlooked by Vesuvius.

Your personal driver will collect you directly from your ship for the 45 minute journey to POMPEII where time stands still in the year 79AD.  It was originally a sea port, however, the eruption raised the land and left the ruined town far from the bay.  Slip back 2,000 years as you wander the streets, visit temples, homes, wine shops, bakeries and public baths.  Pompeii is so well preserved that you can see many fine details in mosaic floors and colourful frescos that reveal the life of its residents.   Please note that exploring Pompeii is entirely by foot and takes a minimum of 2 hours to walk around the site. Nearby there is also the ruined city of HERCULANEUM buried under the ashes of Vesuvius.  If there’s time you may wish to climb VESUVIUS (1281 metres above sea level) to view the crater.  The road for vehicles terminates halfway up the climb and there is a further 45 minutes walking up the steep mount before you reach the top.  At the end of your day of discovery your driver will return you to your ship.

NAP02 - The Amalfi Coastline

Explore one of the most  beautiful stretches of coastline in the world, glimpse magnificent vistas and discover the enchanting villages of  POSITANO, AMALFI and RAVELLO.

Depart the port for the picturesque drive along the Sorrento peninsula past villages that seem to tumble down to meet the gentle curve of a beach.  In just over an hour you will reach romantic POSITANO filled with whitewashed houses set on terraces of a steep embankment down to a pebbled beach lapped with brilliant blue water and brightly painted fishing boats.  Stroll through the delightful narrow streets before joining your driver again for the short drive to AMALFI, the first Italian Maritime Republic.  The Buzantine cathedral of Sant’Andrea with its beautiful cloister stands at the top of a long flight of stairs in the main piazza.  The town is also home to the Museo della Carta, a paper-making museum and is renowned for its production of Limoncello liqueur.  It’s then on to RAVELLO for cliff top views that will take your breath away of the Bay of Salerno from Villa Cimbrone with its “terrace of the infinite”, and beautiful gardens.  The town was a popular destination for artists, musicians and writers including Richard Wagner and Virginia Woolf and ancient legend recounts that it was to Ravello that Satan transported Jesus during his second temptation to show the beauty of the world’s kingdoms (Luke 4:5-8).   Also worth a visit are Villa Rufolo and the Duomo in the central piazza.  Relaxed and fulfilled, your driver will take you on the hour journey back to port.

NAP03 - Design your own Neopolitan Experience

Everyone has their own special reason for coming to Italy  – there are things you may want to see and do that are not mentioned in one of our pre-arranged tours.  Many of our clients are looking for relatives or visiting old friends, many are food and wine enthusiasts and are looking for a particular experience, some are interested in exploring ancient Greek legends and others just want to relax and enjoy the natural splendours that Italy has to offer.  SORRENTO is an enchanting old fishing town perched on a rocky bluff overlooking the sea where Greeks and Romans found inspiration for their art and it is here that you will find a wonderful collection of wood works, mosaics and porcelain.   Take the hydrofoil to the magical island of CAPRI and discover the lively town centre with its designer shopping, the ruins of imperial Roman villas and the Grotta Azzurra once used by Emperor Tiberius as his private swimming pool.  Our drivers will meet you directly from your ship at the dock at 8am and will be at your complete disposal for up to a 9 hour service, returning you to your ship at the end of your Neopolitan adventure.
