ROM01 - The Splendours of Rome

Spend the day soaking up the magical atmosphere of the eternal city of ROME and the splendid treasures of the Vatican (the smallest state in the world).  Rome is a museum in itself bursting with art,  ancient monuments, spectacular cathedrals, colourful piazzas, marbled fountains, gourmet restaurants and boutique shopping.

Your personal driver will collect you directly from your ship for the hour and a half journey into the heart of the city where he will be at your complete service throughout the day to show you all the prominent landmarks without too much walking.  Start off exploring the treasures in the Vatican Museum as you walk through magnificent rooms, hallways and galleries filled with art which lead to the 15^th century Sistine Chapel depicting Michelangelo’s fresco of the “Creation of the World”.   Enter the vast colonnaded square of St Peter’s Basilica (the largest church in the world) and marvel at the Pietà – Michelangelo’s marble masterpiece.  Explore the Mussolini era as you visit Piazza Venezia renowned for its Victor Emanuel Monument and for the building that was Mussolini’s headquarters.  Go back even further in time to Capitol hill to enjoy views across the Roman Forum where Mark Anthony made his impassioned speech over the body of Julius Caesar.  Roman history leads to Piazza Navona, the Pantheon from 27BC, Circus Maximus and finally one of Rome’s most awe-inspiring monuments and the largest amphitheatre even built in the Roman Empire (70-80AD) – the Colosseum where 50,000 spectators gathered to watch the gladiators in battle.  Before returning to your ship stroll down the Spanish Steps and don’t forget to throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain!

ROM02 - Design your own Roman Adventure
